Comeng: A History of Commonwealth Engineering: Volume 3: 1966-1977
Author(s): DUNN John
The takeover of rival firm A. E. Goodwin allowed Comeng to enter the lucrative and very successful business of building Alco-powered diesel-electric locomotives, for the growing iron ore mines in Australia's northwest. The company's long-established business of building buses and other road transport vehicles continued, as did the arm of Comeng that supplied curtain walling for the high-rise buildings around Australia. The company was now the largest rolling stock manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere.
Product Information
'Company histories tend not to have sparkling reputations, veering as they do from uncritical panegyrics to turgid chronicles. But not this book! A fresh Australian breeze blows the conventional cobwebs away and, in the plain and direct language much favoured by folk down under, a fascinating saga unfolds before the reader.' - R.A.S. Hennssey, SLS Journal February 2011
