: Though poor performance hampered the Hawker Typhoon's intended role as an interceptor fighter, RAF pilots nonetheless scored numerous kills with the big fighter. Its successor, the Tempest V, was far better suited to countering the Luftwaffe, with numerous airframe and engine mods arguably making it the RAF's ultimate interceptor.
